Duffy Has More to Say

When I was a kid growing up I had a paper route in the small town of Fort Dodge and one of the papers that I delivered was the Des Moines Register.  Some days I’d wake up and take one of the papers I was going to deliver and sit and read the comics before I went out to deliver.  Brian Duffy is one of those editorial comics that I’d read.  According to Rob Tornoe at Politicker.com Duffy was canned along with others as part of a nation-wide lay-offs that Gannett was doing.

Duffy then was approached by CityView to put a full page cartoon in print to say one last special something back the old newspaper.  Here’s what was printed.  Read the rest of Tornoe’s story here.

Makes me wonder how ol’ Carmen Cerra is doing…Fritz, he was your inspiration, the one who made you want to cartoon-any idea where he is today?

I’m doing all right. The Ames Tribune keeps me busy as a copy editor, page designer, illustrator, sometimes-writer and, when I have time, cartoonist.
I miss Duffy’s stuff- he’s why I got into the business.
By the way- Excellent stuff, Fritz! I love the fresh linework. I need to loosen up on my own stuff.
